Compressor Operator

In order to become certified as a Compressor Operator, you must acquire practical on-the-job experience, or a combination of practical experience with classroom training. You must also obtain a passing mark of 65% on two standard examinations and apply for certification with Technical Standards & Safety Authority. Please see below for more details:

9 months service and/or repair of compressors with a capacity that requires operators when in operation.

OR
8 months for candidates who have successfully completed a full-time TSSA "approved-for-time-reduction" Compressor Operator program at a training facility
OR
3 months for persons who have extensive experience in the installation and/or servicing of registered plant compressor installations
OR
2 months for those who have extensive experience in the installation and/or servicing of compressor installations and who also have successfully completed a TSSA "approved-for-time-reduction" training program at a training facility

There are two examinations to be written:
Paper C-1 will consist of 150 multiple choice questions and is to be written and passed, prior to attempting the C2 examination.
Paper C-2 is essay style and will reflect on the candidates’ practical operating experience and compressor systems familiarity.

(Must have started operating experience or course study before taking exams.)

Passing mark is 65% with a 60 day re-write period.

To obtain a 4th class certificate, you will need to provide:

1)  an Application for an Ontario Certificate of Qualification as an Operating Engineer or Operator
2)  Form 1 Testimonial of Qualifying Experience
3)  Originals of your examination ‘pass’ letters
4)  a cheque for one hundred dollars ($100.00) made out to Technical Standards and Safety Authority
