Fourth Class courseware prepares students to write inter-provincial Fourth Class Power Engineering examinations. It provides the knowledge needed to safely operate, maintain and repair the high or low pressure power plants in which they are employed.

Power Engineering Training Systems courses are the industry standard, approved in Canada by the Interprovincial Power Engineering Curriculum Committee (IPECC), the Standardization of Power Engineers' Examination Committee (SOPEEC), and the Association of Chief Inspectors (ACI).

Supplemental Information

Although the 4th Class course contains a lecture that is designed to familiarize the student with the various Codes and Regulations pertaining to pressure vessels and power plant operation, you will also need to obtain:

  • The Technical Standards and Safety Act, 2000 (the Operating Engineers Regulation and the Boilers and Pressure Vessels Regulation are posted on the page of the TSSA website. They can be printed at no cost for use in your studies)
  • CSA B51-97 & B52-99 Codes are available from CSA International. Please call 416.747.4000 or visit their website: www.csa-international.org
  • ASME Section 1 "Extract" is available from TSSA for approximately $30. Please call in Toronto: 416.325.9230 or toll-free (outside Toronto): 1-877-682-8772.
  • ASME Code Books (other than Section 1 Extract) are very expensive. Try accessing copies from your place of employment or local library.
